Stop-and-search powers have been stepped up in two areas of Bury after a car plunged into water following an 'altercation'.
Two men were arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill after an incident that culminated near the Pilsworth Fishery yesterday afternoon (Thursday). There was a huge emergency services presence beside the water after a vehicle had careered off Aviation Road down a grass verge.
Police said an 'altercation' had broken out between passengers in two vehicles before the car plunged into the water. A man in his 40s suffered 'superficial injuries' while two men were taken into custody to be questioned on suspicion of criminal damage, public order and making threats to kill.

At around 11pm last night, officers announced Section 60 powers for the area around Aviation Road, which is on the border of Bury and Heywood, for 24 hours. This gives police the power to stop-and-search anyone within the area.
A Section 60 power has also been enforced for an area near Woodhill Road and Woodhill Road Park following an 'incident' yesterday afternoon. The nature of this incident has not yet been confirmed, though Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further details.
Police said the 'order is in place to prevent further incidents and to reassure members of the public'. A post on the GMP Bury North Facebook page last night said: "Section 60 - Stop and-search powers authorised in two different locations in Bury for the next 24 hours.
"Officers in Bury have authorised a Section 60 order after they were called to reports of incidents on Woodhill Road and Aviation Road this afternoon (27/04/2023) The order is in place to prevent further incidents and to reassure members of the public."
Det Chief Insp Chris Walker said: "Whilst we believe this incident is targeted and there is no wider threat to the public, these measures have been put in place to ensure our community is kept safe from harm. Utilising these powers is not a decision we take lightly, we are committed to keeping the public safe and bringing perpetrators to justice.
"I would like to thank the public for their support, and I appeal to them to continue coming forwards with information. Any information, CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage you may have, even if you think your piece of information is insignificant, it could be a huge help to our investigation."
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) added: “Shortly before 1.30pm this afternoon three fire engines from Blackley, Ramsbottom and Bury, the Water Incident Unit from Heywood, and the Technical Response Unit from Leigh were called to attend an incident on Aviation Road in Bury.
“Crews worked alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service at the scene and were in attendance for just over an hour.”
