Stoke tower block fire: Blaze tears through flats as air ambulance rushes to scene

An air ambulance has been called to the scene of a raging fire at a tower block.

Footage from the scene has shown thick smoke pouring from one of the top floors of the flats in the the Hanley are of Stoke-on-Trent.

Witnesses believe the fire started at roughly 7.10am, reports Stoke-on-Trent Live. Eight fire crews are thought to be at the scene.

An air ambulance has been captured landing nearby with firefighters currently tackling the blaze.

One resident, who lives nearby, said: “My son sent me a message to say there’d been a fire and then I read it on StokeonTrentLive.

“I came out and saw all the emergency services. I just hope everyone is okay. I’ve never seen this amount of emergency services here before.”

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that nobody has been injured.

The service sent multiple engines to the scene following reports of a flat fire at around 7.10am.

A spokesman said: "Eight crews from across North Staffordshire attended the scene alongside officers from Staffordshire Police and paramedics

"Multiple breathing apparatus, main jets and an aerial ladder platform were used to extinguish the fire. No-one was injured.

"Neighbouring flats have been evacuated for the safety of residents."

A spokesman for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are working with Stoke-on-Trent City Council, key partnering agencies and nearby residents.

"A structural engineer from Stoke-on-Trent City Council is due to attend the scene.

"An investigation into the cause is underway."
