Stocks Supported by Fed Rate Cut Optimism

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) today is up by +0.23%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) is up by +0.27%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is up by +0.34%.  December E-mini S&P futures (ESZ25) are up +0.20%, and December E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQZ25) are up +0.32%.

Stock indexes are moving higher today, with the S&P 500, the Dow Jones Industrials, and the Nasdaq 100 posting 2-week highs.  Today’s decline in the 10-year T-note yield to a 1-month low of 3.96% is supporting stocks.  Bond yields are falling as recent dovish economic news and Fed commentary bolstered optimism that the Fed will cut interest rates at next month’s FOMC meeting.  Strength in energy producers is also a supportive factor for the broader market, with WTI crude up more than 1% to a 1-week high.
