Stockport’s famous multi-storey car park at the Merseyway shopping centre is to be the venue for the 10th birthday celebration of the renowned Art Battle party. The brutalist masterpiece will be the backdrop for the event, which finds artists going head-to-head.
As ever, a line-up of painters, illustrators, tattooists and street artists will be battling it out to complete a brand new work of art in just 30 minutes. The assembled audience then vote on which artwork is the best, crowning a champion.
Art Battle has taken place in a host of quirky locations all across Greater Manchester since launching back in 2013, and never the same venue twice. There have been Art Battle parties at the London Road Fire Station, the Albert Hall, The Royal Exchange, Victoria Baths, and Escape to Freight Island, as well as an array of historic mills and warehouses.

The last party took place in the now abandoned Debenhams in the centre of Stockport, where 1,000 attended to witness the live art creation, drink cocktails and eat street food.
Stockport’s multi-storey car park at the Merseyway, built in the 60s, is considered an iconic building by fans of brutalist architecture, and is bestowed with concrete cladding designed by Marple-born muralist and sculptor Alan Boyson.
Co-Founder John Macaulay said: “In addition to the high-energy live painting competition, we’ll be joined by some of Stockport's finest independent traders, serving a vast array of food and drink. The town has really got behind us again and there will be a party atmosphere on the night to celebrate our 10th birthday.”
Tickets for the event, dubbed 'Party In The (Car) Park', are on sale from today, at £17.50, with the event taking place on September 8 from 7pm. You can grab tickets here.
