The Future XV have yet to win a game in the Super Series, and lost 92-14 when they played Stirling Wolves back in August.
Nonetheless, Wolves coach Eddie Pollock insists he will be taking nothing for granted when the teams meet again at Bridgehaugh tonight.
The Futures have come close to breaking their duck a couple of times in their seven outings to date, and have two losing bonus points as well as three try bonuses to their credit. While they were stretched for playing resources earlier in the campaign when many first-choice players were absent on Scotland Under-20 duty at the World Rugby Trophy, Pollock believes they have more recently become a tougher proposition.
“Their recent excellent performances against Watsonians and Southern Knights have shown how dangerous a side they have become since the return of their under-20 international players,” he said. “Our players have prepared well in training this week and are looking forward to the challenge this exciting young side will bring.”
A win this evening would take the Wolves back into the top-four play-off places, although the Southern Knights could go above them again tomorrow if they win at home to Boroughmuir Bears. Tomorrow’s other Super Series match sees Heriot’s welcome Ayrshire Bulls to Goldenacre, with both sides already well placed to end up in the top two slots that would give them home semi-finals next month.
Top of the bill in tomorrow’s Premiership card, meanwhile, is the meeting of Marr and Currie Chieftains at Fullarton Woods. Marr are two points clear of Hawick at the top, with the Chieftains, who have a game in hand on both, three points further behind in third.
Hawick themselves are at home to Musselburgh, while fourth-placed Heriot’s Blues visit Selkirk. Edinburgh Accies travel to Kelso, and bottom-of-the-table Jed-Forest will be seeking a first win of the season when they visit second-bottom Glasgow Hawks.
