Stirling CAB launches volunteer recruitment drive as demand for services surges

Stirling Citizens' Advice Bureau is looking for volunteer advisers and receptionists to come on board for its Spring intake as the charity aims to help more people than ever.

The organisation - which helps provide advice and key services for those struggling - is set to launch its latest training programme for advisers on April 14, with anyone able to get involved, whatever their knowledge or qualifications.

The charity says the training will help those taking part become a confident adviser, with the help of a constantly updating information system to work with.

Training consists of three months of Friday morning sessions conducted via Zoom and around 30 online modules, with volunteers then being asked to come into the bureau for at least three hours a week to shadow current advisers.

It is a role which requires a time commitment from those interested, with a minimum level of six hours per week for trained advisers - conducted either via one full day or two half days working directly with the public.

The advice service is open 10am to 3pm Monday to Thursday and expenses are paid to volunteers.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "Due to the impact of the pandemic and ongoing cost of living crisis, there has been a substantial increase in the demand for advice from members of the public all over Stirling district.

"Stirling Citizens Advice Bureau is therefore now seeking to additional recruit volunteers to train as both advisers and receptionists.

"Anyone can volunteer. You don’t have to come with formal qualifications or a vast amount of knowledge. Our training will help you become a confident adviser or receptionist with a constantly updated information system to work with.

"And because we always want our staff to reflect the community they serve, we hope people of all ages and backgrounds will be interested in finding out more about volunteering with their local CAB."

For triage receptionist roles, Stirling CAB are looking for a commitment of around three hours per week and this role will involve acting as the initial triage from the public to the bureau.

If you would like to find out more about volunteering with Stirling Citizens Advice Bureau, interested parties are being asked to contact volunteer coordinator Janet Taylor on email (janet.taylor@stirlingcab.casonline.org.uk)

The closing date to return completed applications is 5pm on April 7. However, you are encouraged to return a completed application asap to ensure an interview place.
