Stirling Albion boss wants team to kick habit of conceding early goals

Stirling Albion boss Darren Young has urged his players to kick the habit of conceding early goals when Albion Rovers visit Forthbank.

The Binos are sitting fourth in League Two after their opening five matches and have seven points on the board, three more than their visitors from Coatbridge.

Rovers lost their first three matches but then won 2-0 at Bonnyrigg Rose and drew 2-2 with Annan Athletic at Cliftonhill last time out.

Stirling go into this weekend’s clash on the back of a 1-0 loss at Bonnyrigg last Saturday but having beaten Stenhousemuir and Annan Athletic in their two outings prior to that.

The Binos defeated Albion Rovers 2-1 at Forthbank in the first meeting of the sides last season but Brian Reid’s men then recorded a pair of 1-0 victories before the most recent encounter in April ended in a 1-1 draw in Coatbridge. Dale Carrick opened the scoring but David Wilson equalised for the hosts.

Ahead of the encounter, Young said: “It was very frustrating to lose to Bonnyrigg in the manner we did. We gave away a penalty early in the game that was down to an individual error.

“We also conceded poor goals at Annan and Brechin recently and that has to stop because it makes things so much harder for us.

“We reacted well to losing the goal last week and had some good chances but we didn’t manage to get a break in front of goal unfortunately. Hopefully we can put that right against Rovers.”

Stirling travel to Station Park next weekend to take on Forfar Athletic and are at home to Stranraer on Saturday, September 17 but have no game on September 24 after being knocked out of the SPFL Trust Trophy by Brechin City on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Glebe Park.

Meanwhile, the transfer window is now closed but clubs in the lower leagues have until the end of this month to make domestic loan signings.
