Cambuslang man Darren Young was sent off and ended up in a nightclub still wearing his Stirling Albion tracksuit, but says you have to celebrate title success when it happens.
The Stirling Albion boss watched his side clinch the League Two title with a 3-1 win at home to Annan Athletic on Saturday, with an 18-game unbeaten run leaving them nine points clear of nearest challengers Dumbarton, with two games to spare.
And Young, 44, says the celebrations went long into the weekend.
“It’s one of those things that doesn’t happen very often and you need to make the most of it – and we’ve certainly done that in the last two days,” said Young.
“We’ve been out on Saturday and Sunday, we were out on Saturday night and I still had the tracksuit on with the coaching staff in the nightclub on Saturday night, in Fubar in Stirling, so it was pretty funny.
“That’s the first time I’ve ever been in a nightclub with a tracksuit on, but it was great. There were loads of fans there as well, so everyone was enjoying the moment. You’ve got to enjoy it because it doesn’t happen very often.
“I got sent off on Saturday as well, because I celebrated by running down the touchline and celebrated with the fans and the players. Before you know it, we’re in the six-yard box, celebrating.
“Everybody was on the pitch, the whole coaching staff. The referee [Chris Fordyce] apologised but said by the letter of the law I need to send you off, even though he could take a picture to show there were no coaching staff on the touchline, they were all on the park.
“He had to send me off, which is a wee bit frustrating, but I’ll accept it and take it for a league title!”
Young is preparing for another party this weekend when Stirling lift the League Two trophy.
He added: “We get the trophy on Saturday and it’s something else to look forward to. There was a great turn-out on Saturday, 1400 or 1500, and to now get the trophy handed to you means the guys in the backroom can prepare for that.”
