Stick to SC norms while dropping cases against MPs & MLAs: Andhra Pradesh high court

VIJAYAWADA: If the cases against MPs and MLAs are withdrawn in contravention of Supreme Court guidelines, it would amount to contempt of court orders, said the Andhra Pradesh high court on Wednesday.

The high court bench headed by Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice DVSS Somayajulu said in the public interest litigation (PIL) petition challenging the GO issued by the state government withdrawing cases filed against YSRC MLA Samineni Udaya Bhanu.

The high court also took suo moto cognisance of withdrawal of cases against public representatives.

Arguing on behalf of the petitioner, Jada Sravan Kumar said that the GO issued in case of Udaya Bhanu appears to have been forced upon the home secretary. He said that the guidelines were not followed in issuing the GO and hence it needs to be set aside.
