Stewartry Sirens narrowly missed out on claiming a leg of Scotland’s biggest women’s rugby sevens tournament on Saturday.
The Women’s 7 Series took place at Greenlaw, with teams from across the country taking part.
The Sirens finished the day undefeated – only to miss out on the title by a tiny margin.
Sirens’ Lauren Nicholson said: “Because it’s a three-legged competition, there wasn’t a semi-final or a final.
“Everyone played four games and the winners were the team who won the most games.
“The Sirens drew with the leg winners from the previous week, Corstorphine Cougars, on games won, so it went down to which teams scored most tries but they drew on that.
“It went down to point difference and Corstorphine Cougars won as theirs was eight points better.
“They won in the end but the Sirens didn’t lose a game, so that was good.”
It was a real family day at Greenlaw with lots of kids entertainment, music, food stalls and a bar to keep folk entertained.
And they also had the chance to have their picture taken with the Doddie Weir Cup, which the SRU had brought down for the afternoon.
Lauren added: “We raised £505 for My Name5 Doddie Foundation but we’re still selling stuff now – we’ve got the stock until Friday if anyone wants to get in touch through Facebook.
“Hopefully by the time it goes we’ll be close to £600 or £700.
“Everything went smoothly and there was a good turn out - the committee and men’s team were there, it was a total club effort. The Sharkettes girls’ section were volunteering, they ran the tuck shop and bouncy castle.
“It all went smoothly and I think everyone had a good day.”
The third and final leg of the Women’s 7 Series takes place at Redford Barracks in Edinburgh
on Saturday.
