Stewartry Sirens got their hands on the league trophy on Sunday.
The Sirens clinched the Tennent’s National League Division One title earlier this month when they defeated Broughton in Edinburgh.
And although the weather put paid to their final home game against Biggar, they were still presented with the championship trophy and banner at Greenlaw by Heather Lockhart from the SRU.
Head coach David Thomson said: “The biggest thing for us this season has been the positivity of the team, it’s been superb.
“All the senior players have stepped up and helped the new players and it’s proven to be a winning recipe.
“Last season we had 12 new players, this season we have had dribs and drabs of people coming back or players who were pregnant who have come back to rugby.
“We seem to get more players then others go but we’re doing good.”
The Sirens have won all nine of their league games to date and will have the chance to make it a perfect 10 when their game against Biggar is rearranged for the new year.
And their league triumph makes up for last season’s disappointment when they narrowly missed out on promotion through the play-offs.
Thomson added: “We just missed out in the last game up at Garioch. We got pipped at the end but it was a good learning curve for the team.”
After the summer, the Sirens will take up their place in the Tennent’s Premiership.
Before then, they have the Sarah Beaney Cup to look forward to in the new year. It will give them a taste of the quality they’ll be up against next season.
Thomson said: “We’ll be playing against all the best teams in Scotland.
“We want to do well in the cup but the league is where it’s at. It’s a chance to gauge where we’re at and see where we need to pick things up.”
