Stewartry curlers battle it out for Queenshill Cup

Ten Stewartry Province teams took part in the Queenshill Cup competition at Dumfries Ice Bowl on March 13.

The cup is one of the oldest curling trophies still being regularly played for, with the first competition being circa 1832 played outdoors.

After some entertaining and enjoyable curling, the cup was won by New Abbey Curling Club with Kirkcudbright Country Curling Club finishing a close second.

At the end of the competition, sponsored by the Dark Space Planetarium Kirkcudbright, a social event was held at the Ice Bowl, followed by a trophy presentations by Colin MacLaine from the Dark Space Planetarium.

This was followed by a set of Pig Races which raised £150.30 for the Stewartry president’s chosen charity.
