Motherwell boss Stevie Hammell says his side didn't do enough in the final third to win as Kilmarnock came back to beat them 2-1 at Rugby Park this afternoon.
The defeat drops Motherwell down to fourth place in the Premiership table.
Motherwell had taken the lead through Kevin van Veen in 14 minutes with a superb team goal, and they should have been further ahead.
But Danny Armstrong squeezed a shot in between Liam Kelly and the left post in 71 minutes, and Liam Polworth's free kick led to Ash Taylor's powerfully headed winner.
The Steelmen had a chance to go 2-1 up at 1-1, but sub Ross Tierney's shot was well saved by Sam Walker after being fed by van Veen.
Hammell said: "There was a moment before [the equaliser] when we got in, and it's stuff we work on every single day.
"In transition, we need to be better in the final third. We could and should go 2-0 up if we work it better. We work a good opening at 1-1 again with Ross Tierney and we need to be taking these chances.
"If you compare the goals and chances with what we gave up today, it was disappointing.
"We started well, I thought we played well for the first 30 minutes I thought we did what we wanted to do.
"We scored a great goal, especially since it was openings we had worked on and we felt we could capitalise on, and it's a positive start to the game, but obviously it wasn't a positive conclusion for us.
“The second goal is nowhere near good enough. We shouldn't be conceding a goal like that at this level. The boys understand that.
"We are going to lose games, we know that, but the manner that we lost that, to the goal that we did, is hugely disappointing.
"We knew it was going to be tough, coming here. They put us under pressure with crosses, throw-ins and stuff that we knew. I don't think we stood up to that as well as we have done, though the physical element of our game has been good."
