Former Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister is one of six Liverpool legends who will travel to the Far East with Jurgen Klopp’s squad for the English giants pre-season trip to Singapore.
The Merseyside giants have announced that McAllister will take part in a series of events planned during the trip which forms part of the Singapore Festival of Football. Klopp takes his Reds squad out next month and they will defend their Standard Chartered Singapore Trophy against Leicester City at the National Stadium on July 30. They then face German giants Bayern Munich on August 2.
McAllister has been out of work since Gerrard was sacked by Aston Villa with the former Scotland captain following his old Anfield team-mate to the Midlands from Ibrox after playing a key role in helping Rangers win the Scottish Premiership title in 2020/21. The 58-year-old spent two years at Liverpool toward the end of his career and was instrumental in their Treble success under Gerard Houllier when they won the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup in 2000/01.
Liverpool announced that McAllister will go along with John Aldridge, John Barnes, Lucas Leiva, Ian Rush and Martin Skrtel. Reds fans will have the chance to meet the legends at Q&A sessions. McAllister has been linked with a return to another of his former clubs, Leeds United, alongside Gerrard after the ex Rangers boss turned down the chance to become the latest big name to move to Saudi Arabia when he was in talks with Al Ettifaq.
