Under-pressure Steven Gerrard admits he fears for his future at Aston Villa in the wake of their fourth defeat in five Premier League games.
The former Rangers boss pulled no punches on Wednesday night as his side were outplayed by Arsenal en route to a 2-1 defeat at the Emirates stadium. Villa now host red-hot Manchester City before a monumental showdown with Brendan Rodgers' Leicester the following week.
Gerrard - who noted the crescendo of boos that rained down on him after their insipid defeat to West Ham - admitted he is feeling the heat amid a dreary start to the new campaign. Speaking to BT Sport, he said: "Of course I do. If I stood here and said I wasn't concerned I think you'd look at me as though I was from a different planet." But Aston Villa punters, disgruntled over recent results, reckon something doesn't add up with Villa linked with a trio of deadline day deals for Wolves' Leander Dedoncker and Tottenham cult hero Lucas Moura, plus Chelsea's Connor Gallagher. Would the club really be all in if Gerrard's time was nearing the end?
The interest is set amid a backdrop of uncertainty over star man Douglas Luiz, with the Brazilian entering the final of his deal at Villa Park. And supporters are seeking answers as sporting chief Bruno Lange and Gerrard seek to find a signing spark with some supporters fearing a lack of joined up thinking.
Villa Mad said: "Panic buying, I don’t like. I’d rather Villa deal with what they got in the squad." Dean R added: "Today's transfers for me will define if the club want to keep Gerrard or not. No signings, no backing. One way or another it will be interesting."
But Ace wrote: "Getting them for Pochettino." Jamie Davidson wrote: "This transfer window has been a disaster, the start of the season hasn’t been any better and I still don’t know what Gerrard sees every week different to what every Villa fan sees."
