Steven Gerrard has hinted that he is NOT in the running to take over at Turkish champions Trabzonspor despite jetting out to Istanbul.
The former Rangers boss has been out of work since Aston Villa binned him in October after 11 months in charge, and has been linked with several high profile posts including the Poland managerial hot seat and was surprisingly touted as a contender for the Paris Saint-Germain top job. However, reports in Turkey suggested that return to the dugout was rapidly gathering pace after he flew out to the Istanbul.
It has been claimed that the former Ibrox boss would presidential candidate of Trabzonspor, Ertugrul Dogan, who has promised to appoint the former England captain as boss if he wins the forthcoming elections. However, it now appears that Gerrard was in the country for an event working with Turkish Airlines and former Brazil World Cup winner Cafu.
Istanbul will host this season's Champions League Final and it was the venue for Liverpool's legendary comeback from 3-0 down against AC Milan before winning on penalties. Gerrard played a key role that night and he got the chance to relive it as they promoted this season's final in the Turkish city.
Gerrard shared a clip to Instagram of himself on a stage in Istanbul as highlights of the game against Milan in the background and the caption stated: "Great few days in Istanbul with Turkish Airlines.” He then posted another image alongside Cafu and the Champions League trophy and said: “Great few days in Istanbul with Cafu for Turkish airlines. Great city."
