Steven Gerrard 'looking forward' to Celtic showdown with Liverpool as former Rangers boss sends old rivals a message

Steven Gerrard has revealed he can't wait to pull on the Liverpool jersey to play against Celtic this weekend.

The former Rangers manager will play in the Liverpool v Celtic legends match at Anfield on Saturday afternoon to raise money for charity. Paul Lambert is set to manage the Parkead side who will be lead by Stan Petrov on the park. The Hoops will also be able to call upon the likes of Artur Boruc, Mikael Lustig, Trevor Sinclair, Niall McGinn, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Harald Brattbakk.

Gerrard will be hoping to put in a decent display as around 4,000 Celtic fans are set to descend on Merseyside for the charity fixture. Jamie Carragher, Dirk Kuyt, Gary McAllister and Sami Hyypia will also feature for Liverpool with Scotland legend Kenny Dalglish taking charge in the dugout. Former Celtic and Liverpool striker Robbie Keane is set to play a half for each side.

The match has been organised by the LFC Foundation with all proceeds from the game going to good causes supported by Celtic and Liverpool.

Speaking ahead of the game, Gerrard took to Instagram to say: "Morning Reds. I'm really looking forward to this Saturday to play against Celtic in support of the Forever Reds and The LFC Foundation. Hopefully see you all soon."
