Steven Gerrard in Jurgen Klopp Liverpool appreciation as he relishes return to Anfield 'family'

Steven Gerrard says watching Liverpool at Rangers and from Aston Villa has only served to remind him how important Jurgen Klopp is to his beloved club.

The legendary Anfield midfielder holds the German in high regard and has a good relationship with him. Gerrard coached in the Reds academy before the Ibrox giants offered him his first managerial role, becoming kings of Scotland in 2021. That earned him a crack at the Premier League with Aston Villa but he was sacked in the autumn after a disappointing start to this season.

Gerrard has been involved in a few pieces of work surrounding the club where he made his name at as a player, and has revealed what he learned about Klopp's importance to Liverpool in his time away from the club. Speaking at the Forever Reds Christmas Lunch, he admits the Premier League club might not know what they have until it's gone.

The 42-year-old explained: "As a Liverpool fan, but having also been involved elsewhere in the Premier League and at Rangers, I think being back now and being part of this Liverpool family, we all have to appreciate what we’ve got. Because we might not understand how big and how important this guy is until maybe one day he decides to go. We just need to keep enjoying the ride under him. It’s fantastic.”

Klopp has won the Premier League and Champions League titles during his legendary Anfield stint, on top of the FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
