Steven Gerrard expecting ‘tough’ Leeds United test as Aston Villa suffer major injury blow

Steven Gerrard is expecting a very tough clash with Leeds United next month after the Villains picked up just their second win of the season against Southampton. Jacob Ramsey's first-half strike lifted Aston Villa away from the relegation places and eased some pressure on the Liverpool legend.

However, the home side were dealt a blow when new arrival Boubacar Kamara limped off the field of play against the Saints. The French midfielder has been one of the standout performers so far this season and was handed and international call-up to face Austria and Denmark in September's Nations League fixtures.

The Villa boss said the injury was a worrying one and it could potentially rule him out of the game against Leeds next month.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Gerrard said: "A lot of our boys go away now, we've just got another injury that we're worried about with Boubacar Kamara so that's going to be a blow that we'll analyse in the short term.

"We haven't got many about, but they've been under pressure, much like myself, so I'll let them breathe for a few days, give them some family time. We'll come in during the middle of the international break, try and get a game behind closed doors.

"Then we'll basically put all we can into winning the next game which is Leeds away. It'll be very tough but we should go there with more confidence now."
