Steven Fletcher in Dundee United striker vow as he makes hilarious Tony Watt 'fourth child' quip

Steven Fletcher is hoping his experience will help Dundee United 's emerging strikers this season.

The former Scotland international made the move to Tannadice this summer, signing a two-year deal, as Jack Ross bolsters his squad ahead of his first campaign as boss at Tannadice. And the striker is looking to bring more than just goals to the table during his spell in the Tangerine half of Tayside.

The 35-year-old has 18 years of first team experience under his belt after making his professional debut for Hibs way back in 2004, making 634 appearances and netting 164 goals since. He has since starred for Scotland as well as enjoying spells south of the border and a stint in Marseille. And now he takes on the task in Tayside where he hopes to help push young, up and coming strikers through the ranks and into the first team. The forward admits that there is a lot of young talent at the club, with his experience potentially invaluable for this who are looking to kick start their career during the 2022/23 campaign.

As well as giving the Tannadice youngsters a boost, Fletcher is also eyeing up his on pitch partnership as he looks to help Dundee United in their return to Europe for the first time in ten years. And fellow forward Tony Watt seems to already be the Ying to his Yang despite just ten days of training together so far.

Speaking about Watt to Sky Sports Scotland, Fletcher said: “I’ve got three kids and I feel like I’ve just adopted another one, that’s what he’s like. He’s like a fourth child now. But I can see his quality in training already. A few of the young lads as well. We’ve got a good group of young, hungry players which is good for the club.

“I will try and bring as many goals a I can but we’ve got a young squad and I think my experience as well will help the young boys. We’ve got a few young strikers as well that are coming through the academy. We’ve got a few good strikers, we’ve got Tony (Watt) here as well, who is an experienced lad, so I’m looking forward to it.”
