Steven Davis fallout with Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst rubbished by Barry Ferguson in fan theory takedown

Blunt Barry Ferguson has shut down a Rangers fan theory of a row between Steven Davis and boss Gio van Bronckhorst.

The veteran midfielder has impressed in his last two outings under the Dutchman having largely been a peripheral figure during his Ibrox tenure.

The 37-year-old is out of contract in the summer but the showings against Celtic and St Mirren has sparked conversations between supporters over a new deal.

However, one caller into The Go Radio Football Show claimed to have heard that Davis and Van Bronckhorst had clashed behind the scenes.

They quizzed the former Ibrox on if he had heard similar rumours, but Ferguson was quick to rubbish any chat of a dressing room fallout.

He said: "No. He did have a few injury niggles, and I was listening to an interview before he went away with Ireland where he said he had a couple of injuries.

"That is the reason he wasn't in the team.

"He is a proper footballer, Steven Davis. I've played with him and he brings a real calmness to the pitch. When he comes on he keeps everybody at ease by just sitting in that anchor role.

"He plays the game simple but it's so effective. He made the difference when he came on (against Celtic) and he did similar in the St Mirren game in the previous Sunday to that.

"In terms of staying on, I'm sure he's fit enough to play. I think he will leave it until the end of the season and make the decision himself. If he's willing to play on I would 100 per cent give him another contract."

The caller also floated a potential move to St Mirren for the Northern Ireland cap when his Rangers contract is up in the summer.

Ferguson continued: "Steven Davis? No. Not being disrespectful to St Mirren but I still think he can play at a high, high level.

"That has been proved by his performances with the national team and his performances in the last two weeks."
