Steven Bergwijn has explained what Antonio Conte told him before he came off the bench to win Tottenham's dramatic match at Leicester and spoken about his difficult season.
The Dutchman saved the day for Spurs at the King Power Stadium with his late cameo.
First he rifled home their equaliser in stoppage time and then just 79 seconds later ran on to a Harry Kane pass, rounded Kasper Schmeichel in the Leicester goal and hit the perfect shot in off the post from a tight angle.
That last-gasp winning goal sparked wild celebrations from the players, coaching staff and the travelling Tottenham fans and again when the final whistle was blown moments later.
For Bergwijn, who has been the subject of a rejected bid from Ajax in the face of plenty of praise from Spurs boss Antonio Conte, it was a big night and a potential kickstarter to his Tottenham career.
"This is football is, this is why we love football, it was a difficult game," he said afterwards.
"We had a lot of chances and then they scored, but we believed and we showed we are a team."
He added: "It is fantastic, it was a fantastic game, I scored two goals so I am happy.
"Everything was going through my head, I was so happy I jumped in the crowd."
Bergwijn admitted that it was "100 per cent" his most important goal for the club so far and revealed what Conte had told him before he came on to replace Sergio Reguilon with 11 minutes to go.
"He said 'score and create some difficult moments for the defenders and stay close to Harry' and I did it," admitted the Dutchman, who also had praise for his head coach.
"It is good [with him], we know he is a fantastic manager, he showed this in every club. We are working hard in training, physically.
"We work hard every day and then you see what happens."
For Bergwijn it has been a stop-start season, impressing under Nuno Espirito Santo early on in the campaign, scoring a goal that sent the Netherlands to the World Cup only to suffer a couple of injuries that have fragmented his chances to shine.
"It has been a difficult season with injuries, we have Harry, Sonny and Lucas as well. I need to work and when I come on I need to show myself and the manager," he said before explaining what issues the recent postponements have also caused.
"You want to play and you get out of the rhythm, training is different than the game. It is what it is."
Spurs are now fifth and if they take three points from their four games in hand on Chelsea they could climb into third spot.
"[Top four], that is the target, we have got to go game by game," admitted Bergwijn with Spurs making their way to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
"Every game is important, it's a big game on Sunday but if we go with this mentality we have a good chance."
