Steve Wright’s devastated brother has broken his silence following the radio DJ’s shock death earlier this week.
The veteran broadcaster, who presented Steve Wright in the Afternoon and fronted Top of the Pops, died on Monday aged 69. after being discovered dead at his home by emergency services who had been called to the London address for an “incident”.
Police said that while Steve’s death was “unexpected”, it is not being treated as suspicious.
His younger brother Laurence Wright, 65, has now blamed the BBC star's death on his poor diet, reports MailOnline.
Laurence, a director of a company in the health industry, has pointed the finger at Steve's penchant for eating out combined with his reluctance to talk about "health issues", as the main factors behind his shock passing.
He said: "He was aware that he could have looked after himself better, in his lifestyle choices. Obviously we all wish he had.
"It's like anyone who doesn't look after themselves over an extended period."
Describing his sibling as a "stoic" man who didn't complain and kept his family in the dark about his health, he added: "The normal stuff - diet, nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress - he was a very stoic kind of guy as well so if he had something wrong with him and he had to go to have some treatment or go to the doctors, he wouldn't talk about it.
He also dismissed suggestion that Steve died "due to a broken heart" after being axed from his BBC Radio 2 afternoon slot after 24 years in 2022.
Laurence insisted that this was not the case and if anything, his late family member was actually glad of the rest.
