Steve McManaman has agreed with Michael Owen after a “nonsense” during Liverpool’s win over Bournemouth.
The Reds claimed a 9-0 win over Bournemouth to break their own record for the biggest win in the Premier League era. A brace apiece for Roberto Firmino and Luis Diaz, combined with goals from Fabio Carvalho, Harvey Elliott, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and a Chris Mepham own goal secured the victory.
It was Liverpool’s first win of the campaign, after amassing just two points from their first three fixtures. Jurgen Klopp and his players will now prepare to face Newcastle United in midweek.

One of the contentious decisions during the game was Liverpool’s sixth goal. Bournemouth defender Mepham put the ball into his own net, with Diaz lurking behind him for a tap-in.
VAR checked the goal for offside, with Diaz appearing to be in an offside position. However, the video official adjudged the goal to stand, with Diaz deemed to be not interfering with play.
McManaman and Owen were working as pundits for Liverpool’s win. The pair were asked about the own goal, with McManaman labelling the decision as “nonsense”.
“I thought this was offside, I think it was a bad decision,” Owen told Premier League Productions.
“He has to be interfering (with play).”
When it was put to the two pundits that Diaz was not interfering with play as adjudged by VAR, McManaman quickly dismissed that verdict. “Well that’s nonsense,” McManaman replied.
“He was interfering. If you’ve ever played the game, he was interfering with play.”
