Steve Lansdown addresses Alex Scott's Bristol City future amid transfer interest from Brighton

Bristol City owner Steve Lansdown is happy to play the waiting game on Alex Scott's future over the summer as Premier League clubs continue to show an interest in the midfield talent.

Brighton and Hove Albion were the latest top-flight side to be linked with Scott on Friday having watched the 19-year-old for several months in the Championship. As it stands, there has been no offer on the table with City holding out for £25million.

Lansdown admitted that fee could rise depending on the levels of interest with Liverpool, Tottenham, Wolves and West Ham also among the clubs linked to him across the season.

Scott has a contract on the table at City, with his current deal expiring in 2025, and Lansdown confirmed that offer will remain on the cards depending on where his future lies following the summer transfer window.

Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol, Lansdown said ahead of the Burnley contest: "It's there (the contract offer). It's not been taken away.

"It's about being sensible about things. I suspect Alex and his agent will wait and see what happens in the summer, to see what comes along as we would like to do in a sense because why start paying someone earlier, it's not going to affect his value at this stage.

"I wouldn't be surprised if people came in for him but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't either. Alex hasn't said anything as far as I'm aware to say that he wants to go or he's looking to go.

"I think he's developing his career, he has opportunities with England Under-20 too and probably going forward with England Under-21s. So, he's playing football on a regular basis and the chances are he could go to a Premier League club and be sent out on loan to a Championship club so I'd rather he stay here with us and give us that quality and get us up.

"He's got great friends in the club as well which is important. Tommy Conway and him share a flat together, Sam Bell, and so on. If I was them, I'd want to achieve something together.

"It doesn't always happen in football but they're looked after well, they have great facilities and they're having fun which is good to see."

Lansdown also touched upon his transfer fee, reiterating the message that there's no chance he'll leave on the cheap. Earlier this season, Pearson said it would take "one hell of a bid" to prize the Championship Young Player of the Season away from the club.

Lansdown added: "We've quoted £25m in the past, I really don't know where it goes. It's supply and demand, isn't it? If there are lots of clubs interested in him, then the value goes up.

"If it doesn't then it's what we can achieve. At the end of the day, we're not going to sell him on the cheap, he's contracted for another couple of years but I'd like it to be longer to keep that momentum going."

When asked whether the fees from his potential sale will go straight back into the transfer kitty for Pearson to spend this summer, he added: "What football makes, football can spend. But it's got to make it and obviously going back to Covid, football couldn't make anything.

"There isn't a debt to be paid but we need to get the balance between the income and expenditure, all businesses need to do that."
