Steve Kerr commits to new-look Warriors frontcourt

On Saturday, Steve Kerr utilized a new-look frontcourt in the Golden State Warriors‘ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Draymond Green started at center with Andrew Wiggins and Jonathan Kuminga playing forward. Green excelled in his new role, providing 11 assists and 14 rebounds.

Furthermore, both Kuminga and Wiggins performed well. They fed off each other’s energy and created opportunities for each other and their teammates. Following the game, Kerr revealed he plans to stick with that frontcourt lineup moving forward, noting Green’s playmaking ability from the middle of the floor.

“Kerr says he plans to continue to play Green at the five alongside Kuminga and Wiggins to round out the front court,” ESPN’s Kendra Andrews reported. “Said it allowed them to cover more ground defensively, especially with how high volume scoring has been around the league lately. Also noted Green’s playmaking.”

Kerr has been searching for a reliable starting unit all season. Injuries and suspensions have limited his ability to test out new combinations. However, it would appear the head coach wants to see the latest iteration of Golden State’s frontcourt over a larger sample size.

The Warriors are back in action on Tuesday (Jan. 30) when they will face the Philadelphia 76ers. As such, we will get a look at how the new-look frontcourt trio holds up against one of the best big men in the league, which should provide some valuable information on how successful the trio can be together.
