Steve Cooper sets out Nottingham Forest transfer wish amid summer overhaul

Head coach Steve Cooper wants Nottingham Forest to pick up the signing pace again as he targets further additions.

Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey became the Reds' seventh new arrival of the summer when he penned a two-year deal on Friday. The former Burnley man followed Taiwo Awoniyi, Dean Henderson, Giulian Biancone, Moussa Niakhate, Omar Richards and Neco Williams in linking up with Cooper's squad.

But there are areas of the pitch where Forest still need to strengthen, amid a dressing room overhaul ahead of the Premier League campaign. Midfield and attacking reinforcements, in particular, are needed, with the manager eager to get more players through the door as quickly as possible.

Asked if any business was close to being done, Cooper told NottinghamshireLive: "I really hope so. There's no doubt we need it.

"As we've spoken about before, there was always going to be a turnaround with the squad, because of the make-up of the squad last year, in terms of loans. In some areas, I think we've done really well and strengthened. In other areas, it's been slow - and we've got to change that quickly.

"Of course we need more players to come in, there's no doubt about that. That's slowed down a little bit, and we've got to make sure that doesn't stay like that for too long.”

Williams and Hennessey both got their first run-outs for the Reds as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Barnsley in their third pre-season friendly. The former was named in the starting XI, while his teammate replaced Henderson between the posts with half an hour played.

A summer of change at the City Ground has seen a number of departures as well as arrivals. In addition to the loanees who returned to their parent clubs at the end of last term, Tobias Figueiredo, Gaetan Bong, Carl Jenkinson and Lewis Grabban departed at the end of their contracts.

Brice Samba and Jayden Richardson have made permanent exits. And Mohamed Drager, Ethan Horvath, Will Swan, Tyrese Fornah, Jonathan Panzo, Fin Back and Riley Harbottle have headed out on loan.
