Steve Cooper sends message to Nottingham Forest fans as he sets out City Ground play-offs plan

Nottingham Forest will look to draw upon an incredible record at the City Ground when they host Sheffield United in Tuesday night’s decider.

The play-offs semi-final between the two teams remains delicately poised ahead of the second leg, at 2-1. Sander Berge’s late header at Bramall Lane handed the Blades a lifeline after the Reds had dominated Saturday’s encounter, creating a glut of chances.

The tie is far from over, but Forest will take confidence from a fantastic run on home turf as they prepare to run out in front of their own supporters for the final time this season. So far, their only defeat in 2022 on the banks of the Trent was to Liverpool in the FA Cup while they have won their last seven league games there.

“We know we can play well there. We know we can play our way there. We know the supporters can really help us, with how they are,” said head coach Steve Cooper.

“But we also know what it takes to do that. And that starts with a real good plan, a real commitment and preparation.

“We’re working hard to earn the right to play our way and get the right results. We know, in terms of that, we’re starting from scratch from the first whistle to better the opponent. We know that’s what it takes.

“We’ve been selling out for a while now, so the numbers in the stadium will be fairly similar. But of course there is going to be an excited feel around the ground, and one of anticipation.

“We’re looking forward to the game. We love playing at home. We’re always excited about going back there to play another game. When it’s games with things on them, like this one, then you’re even more excited about it.”

Jack Colback and Brennan Johnson had given Forest a two-goal lead in Saturday’s first leg. But Berge pulled one back for United in added time to keep the semi-final alive.
