Steve Cooper receives Evangelos Marinakis feedback as Brennan Johnson reacts to Wolves moment

Forest headlines on Monday, 2 April.

Johnson reacts to ‘spitting’ incident

Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson says he is "surprised" that Wolves winger Daniel Podence was not sent off for an alleged spitting incident, but added that he is "completely fine" with the decision.

Johnson appeared to suggest the Portuguese international had spat in his direction during the 1-1 draw at the City Ground on Saturday. VAR immediately checked for a possible dismissal, but declared the footage inconclusive and no action was taken.

The Football Association are now looking into the incident to decide if retrospective action should be taken. The incident came shortly after Podence had cancelled out Johnson’s opener in the game.

Controversial incidents analysed

Micah Richards says Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson was wrongly booked for diving during Saturday's draw with Wolves.

The Welsh attacker went to ground in the box during the second half after dribbling past defender Toti Gomes. Referee Chris Kavanagh did not point to the spot, however, instead choosing to show Johnson a yellow card for simulation.

The decision was one of two key flashpoints in an ill-tempered game between two teams battling against relegation from the Premier League . Pundit Richards felt the incident may not have been worthy of a penalty, but believes the 21-year-old was harshly punished.

"I don't understand why he's been booked for diving," the former Manchester City full-back told BBC Match of the Day viewers. "The referees (as highlighted) on the show tonight have been brilliant, but I think they got this one wrong.”

Injury update

Nottingham Forest are still having to contend with mixed news on the injury front as they enter the final 10 games of the Premier League season.

Serge Aurier, Ryan Yates and Gustavo Scarpa all missed Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, although goalscorer Brennan Johnson completed the 90 minutes after being a doubt. The Reds remain without a number of other long-term absentees, but Taiwo Awoniyi and Cheikhou Kouyate did make their comebacks from long spells on the sidelines in the City Ground stalemate.

Meanwhile, left-back Renan Lodi was on the bench, having returned from Brazil less than 24 hours before kick-off. His replacement, Harry Toffolo, has also been struggling with injury - a factor which contributed to the decision to switch the two in the second half.

Marinakis’ reaction to Wolves draw

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was reportedly left unimpressed by his side’s draw with Wolves at the weekend.

Forest performed well against one of their relegation rivals, taking a first half lead with a goal from the impressive Brennan Johnson. Wolves did not overly trouble the Reds backline but secured a late equaliser at the City Ground when Daniel Podence fired home seven minutes from time.

It was a game that should have seen Forest end their run of six outings without a win. Ultimately, it proved to be two points dropped and leaves Forest sitting perilously close to the bottom three.
