Steve Cooper provides Nottingham Forest transfer update ahead of deadline day

Nottingham Forest will continue to push for further signings before tomorrow's 11pm deadline as they await news on injuries to two key players.

Head coach Steve Cooper remained coy about what kind of business he expects to do before the January window comes to a close when quizzed after his side's 2-1 defeat at Cardiff City.

But strengthening his attacking options has been a priority all month, with the club seeing bids turned down for wingers Jed Wallace and Josh Bowler.

And plans may have been altered by a nasty-looking ankle injury to striker Lewis Grabban, as well as a calf problem for defender Steve Cook.

"I think anything could happen tomorrow. We could be busy or we could be quiet," Cooper said, when speaking to the BBC in South Wales.

"There's things that we definitely want to do, and we've been trying to do for a while now, after getting those boys (Keinan Davis, Richie Laryea and Cook) in early.

"If it's going to be until the last minute, then we'll be trying.

"If we do, great. We need it.

"The club have been very clear about what I wanted for a while now. If we don't, then we'll carry on.

"I think everybody needs to strengthen certain areas. All managers want more, I'm no different - especially with the run of games we've got coming up, and maybe some injuries. Today is an example of that.

"We'll see."

Asked if injuries to Grabban and Cook might change his thinking, Cooper added: "Maybe. We'll have to wait and see. It's quite late in the window.

"Who knows how badly injured they are? It's a difficult one to say at the moment."

Cooper reiterated his stance over Brennan Johnson, however, on the back of the Reds turning down a club record fee for the youngster from Brentford.

If any departures are sanctioned before the window closes, it will only be for fringe players - with the likes of centre-back Tobias Figueiredo a target for Vitoria.

On potential exits, Cooper said: "Only players that we would be okay with moving on. But in terms of the ones that we're building the team with, then, no."

"I haven't spoken to the club today, I'm speaking to them later in a planned call," he added, as he addressed talk about Johnson.

"I think if something was going to happen with any of the boys leaving that we don't want to, it would be further down the line than what anything is at the moment. So, yeah, I expect him to still be here."
