The latest Nottingham Forest headlines from NottinghamshireLive on Monday, May 15, 2023.

Key Nottingham Forest difference highlighted as miserable away run ended with Chelsea draw

Ending a seven-match losing streak in the league on the road can be a timely confidence boost for Nottingham Forest.

Head coach Steve Cooper wants his side to take encouragement from their 2-2 draw at Chelsea as they prepare for their decisive final two games. Taiwo Awoniyi’s brace clinched the point for the Reds at Stamford Bridge, with his second coming after the hosts had come from behind to lead.

Forest have struggled on their travels all season and still have one, potentially crucial, away game to come when they go to Crystal Palace on the final day. They host Arsenal before then, but if the relegation battle does go to the wire Cooper’s men will at least have a positive recent result to draw upon when they go to Selhurst Park.

Special moment after Nottingham Forest draw as unity matched by steely spirit at Chelsea

An away end which had sung itself hoarse all afternoon serenaded the Nottingham Forest players long after the final whistle had blown.

Some of those wearing the Garibaldi seemed to stop for a moment to soak it in as they stood and applauded. Taiwo Awoniyi signalled his appreciation as the fans chanted his name, bowing towards them and making a heart sign. Steve Cooper tapped his heart and gave a thumbs up when the affection was directed his way.

Just as there had been on the pitch, there was a show of collective unity which could yet make the difference in the Reds’ survival fight. A bit of the City Ground had been transported to the capital.

The summer signing made it back-to-back braces as his double earned the Reds a 2-2 draw at Chelsea to keep their survival hopes alive. Following on from his success in Monday night’s 4-3 victory over Southampton, it only emphasises how much he was missed while sidelined for three months with injury.

The point at Stamford Bridge keeps Forest’s fate in their own hands with two games to go. They are well aware the job is not yet done and rued the goals they gave Frank Lampard’s side, but in Awoniyi they have a striker finding form at a good time.

Arsenal open door for Nottingham Forest to strike double blow as Man City watch on

Nottingham Forest supporters watched on with equal doses of glee and apprehension as Arsenal fell 3-0 to Brighton on Sunday afternoon.

The slip-up looks to have handed the league title to Man City, but it cannot be declared over just yet. Forest host Arsenal at the City Ground next Saturday (May 20), and a victory for the Reds could prove monumental for multiple reasons.

Three points for Steve Cooper's men could hand Manchester City the Premier League trophy, but more importantly it could secure the Reds' Premier League status for a second season. Below is a look at what Reds supporters are saying.
