Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper refused to get drawn into the debate over whether Daniel Podence should have seen red in an ill-tempered match at the City Ground.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers man appeared to spit in the direction of Reds ace Brennan Johnson towards the end of the 1-1 draw. VAR immediately checked for a possible dismissal, which came shortly after Podence had cancelled out Johnson’s opener, but no action was taken.
It was the second big flashpoint in the game, with assistant managers Alan Tate and the visitors’ Pablo Sanz having been sent off. The two sets of coaching staff clashed on the touchline when Wolves argued they should have had a penalty.

“I’ve seen it back and I’ve spoken to Brennan,” Cooper said of the Podence incident. “I’m not going to add any fuel to the fire because obviously there’s pictures and videos and things like that, so you have to trust the authorities now to deal with it.
“Now it’s happened, and with what’s happened, I don’t really want to add to it. We’ll trust that processes will kick in. I don’t want to say any more on that.”
Johnson had opened the scoring for Forest in the first half, netting his 10th of the season in all competitions. The hosts were then left to rue not capitalising on further chances created as Podence pegged them back in the 83rd minute.
The Reds have now gone seven games without a win as they fight to retain their Premier League status. They sit two points above the relegation zone with 10 games to go.
