Steve Clarke's son has apologised after branding BBC pundit Tom English "a f*****g idiot" in the aftermath of Scotland 's defeat to Ireland.
Emotions ran high on Saturday night as Clarke 's side were battered 3-0 in the Nations League at the Aviva Stadium.
The Scotland boss has already been forced to bat away stinging criticism that followed the devastating World Cup play-off loss to Ukraine earlier this month.
And the heat was on again this weekend as Scotland served up arguably the worst result and performance of Clarke's reign.
English reckoned the manager is "suddenly toiling horribly", as he Tweeted: "Ireland have been miles and miles better here, against all expectations.
"Their attitude has been brilliant and their passion shames the Scots who have been utterly dreadful.
"Scotland's use of the ball has been a joke. Steve Clarke is toiling horribly in the job all of a sudden."
But that prompted an angry rebuke from John Clarke, who replied: "You're a f*****g idiot.
"Who takes the job? A little bit of realism. A little bit of respect for the job that's been done so far."
A contrite Clarke Jr later apologised to English for the heat of the moment outburst.
He said: "Sorry Tom. I apologise for that last comment. I know you're just doing you're job. I'm just a bit upset at the result like all of us."
And that was followed up with a further apology, which read: "Sorry again @TEnglishSport. Emotions got the better of me. I know you're doing your job."
English later said he accepted Clarke's apology.
