Steve Belichick has resigned as North Carolina's defensive coordinator after an independent review of the university's football programme found conduct that breached its standards but concluded it was isolated and not systemic.

His resignation takes effect on 27 October, when his medical leave ends. UNC did not identify the conduct it confirmed or link his departure to a specific allegation.
