Stetson Bennett was drafted earlier than expected, going to the Los Angeles Rams in Round 4 on Saturday. He’s landed in a great spot, getting to learn behind Matthew Stafford and get coached up by Sean McVay.
Bennett won’t get a chance to start right away, but he should at least be the No. 2 quarterback and could potentially take the reins in 2024 or 2025 if Stafford retires in the next two years. With McVay being a quarterback-friendly coach, Bennett couldn’t have ended up with a much better team than the Rams and he can’t wait to work with his coach and quarterback this year.
“Excited to work with Coach McVay. I don’t know much, but I hear he’s a genius,” Bennett said, via ProFootballTalk. “And excited to work with Matt and all the other quarterbacks in the room.”
Bennett is undersized and doesn’t have the strongest arm, but he can make things happen with his legs and he throws with anticipation, putting the ball where it needs to be the majority of the time. McVay’s offense definitely makes life easier for the quarterback because his route concepts are so good that receivers come open pretty often.
Bennett still has a lot of work to do before he’s considered a potential starter but it’ll be fun to see him develop under McVay and Stafford.
