THRISSUR: Steps are on to contain the spread of Covid at Kerala Police Academy, which has been declared a cluster after 30 trainees tested positive for the virus. According to district health authorities, no fresh case has been reported. There are 112 women police trainees and 40 assistant motor vehicle inspectors who are now undergoing training at the academy.
Sources at the academy said all of them have been asked to stay back inside the campus itself so that the infection will not spread to others. Those who are already infected have been isolated while the condition of others are being monitored. Intense sanitisation efforts are already underway at the campus, sources said, adding that the training programmes have been suspended at the academy.
District health authorities said altogether 102 persons have tested positive for Covid in the district. They said there was no indication of the spread of new variants of Covid in the district.
Meanwhile, health authorities are also launching a cleaning and sanitation campaign titled ‘Heal Thy Thrissur’ in the district where a couple of Shigella cases and one death due to West Nile fever were reported. They said houses, institutions, markets and other public spaces will be cleaned up during the campaign. However, they said no fresh cases of West Nile fever and Shigella have been reported from the district.
