Stephen Robinson makes away form point and insists St Mirren team-mates dug Ethan Erhahon out of hole

Stephen Robinson hopes his side battling to another point on the road will help put the narrative St Mirren can’t play away from home “to bed”.

The Buddies faced an uphill task at Rugby Park on Monday afternoon after Ethan Erhahon’s rapid red card put his side under serious pressure.

The Saints didn’t falter, though, picking up a respectable draw with 10 men having also bagged a point at Livingston’s Tony Macaroni Arena last week.

With improving their points return away from Paisley after the World Cup break key to their top-six hopes, Robinson was proud of his players as they dug in against Kilmarnock to earn a draw which maintained their spot in the top half of the Premiership table.

Robinson said: “It puts to bed the narrative about our away form. We’ve got two really good points recently on tricky surfaces at Livingston and Kilmarnock.

“To a man, my players were fantastic. We’re very good at being hard to break down and very good without the ball.

“Curtis Main was like two players up front for us. He was fantastic. I’m not shocked we got a draw because I felt very confident we wouldn’t lose the game.

“Nothing changed from our point of view, even going down to ten men. I knew the application I would get from my players.

“We’re a team who don’t like conceding and don’t like getting beat. I’m really proud of the players. They dug in and showed brilliant organisation.

“We showed quality on the break and we actually had a chance with Alex Greive to win it at the end. We just couldn’t find a finish.

“Christian Doidge had a header late in the game. But, other than that, Killie never really troubled us.”

Robinson refused to put the boot into Erhahon for his rash early dismissal – insisting the talented midfielder hadn’t let him down before that moment all season.

He will, however, be talking to the 21-year-old about the incident, revealing he was lucky his team-mates managed to battle to a point without him.

Robinson added: “In all honesty, I haven’t seen the red card yet. The referee was adamant it was a red.

“But Ethan has been absolutely terrific for me all season. He’s a young kid learning his trade.

“I’ll speak to him and we’ll talk it through. Ultimately, the boys have pulled him out of a hole today. We played for almost 90 minutes with ten men and we got a well- deserved point out of it.”
