Stephen Robinson insists St Mirren will recover from Hearts setback in time for Celtic challenge

Stephen Robinson insists St Mirren will recover from their Hearts setback in time for their tricky trip to Celtic Park.

The Saints’ European hopes suffered on Saturday when the Jambos rescued a point with virtually the last kick of the game.

Robinson feels the fact the Buddies are gutted at dropping points against Hearts shows how far the Paisley club have raised the bar this season.

And the gaffer revealed he’ll put his arm around his players to ensure they’re positive and ready for action when they travel to Glasgow this weekend to take on Premiership champions Celtic.

Robinson told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “It felt like a defeat, but when we’re disappointed with a point against Hearts it tells you how far St Mirren have come.

“The circumstances with the game practically done make it hard to take, but I’ll get round the boys. We’ll speak to them.

“There’s lessons to be learned for everyone, but ultimately we should’ve seen the game out.

“The game should’ve been done and sealed against ten men, but we played with a little bit of fear.

“We had to make a sub at half time because Richard Taylor was on a yellow and we were told that he was one challenge away from another one.

“So we brought on a boy who has played every game [Charles Dunne].

“Then we were proactive by bringing on Lewis Jamieson, but we just didn’t see the game through.

“We made the right subs with bookings and injuries – Ryan Strain had cramp – and they adjusted to the speed of the game.

“I take the responsibility and we now have to pick ourselves up again.”
