Stephen Robinson hails 'terrific' St Mirren campaign as boss predicts there's still more to come

Stephen Robinson handed his players a free pass after turning in a rare stinker of a performance in Paisley.

But the St Mirren boss insists he still wants more post-split after leading the club to the top-six for the first time in their history.

The Saints hadn’t finished in the top half of the table since the split was introduced in the Premiership back in 2000.

Despite a terrible 2-0 home defeat to Kilmarnock on Saturday afternoon in front of a record-breaking crowd at the SMiSA Stadium, Robinson was quick to absolve his Buddies after a terrific overall campaign that saw them guaranteed a top half finish with five games still to play.

And the St Mirren manager is adamant there’s still more to come from his side who have upset the odds and proved plenty of pundits wrong already this season.

Robinson told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “We’ve earned the right to play that poorly, because we were poor.

“We’ve earned the right over 32 games to have an off day.

“We had an off day, but the points are good enough to be a top-six side. So I won’t be taking anything away from this group of players.

“They’ve worked under difficult circumstances. The club has been stripped right back down to the bare bones and now we are trying to build it up again.

"So you won’t hear any negativity from me. It’s been a terrific 33 games. That’s as poor as we’ve played in the 33, but obviously the other 32 must have been very, very good.

“I’ll let the boys enjoy their night and then we’ll go again and we’ll then be doing everything in our power. There’s no reason why we can’t get into Europe now. I’m never satisfied. I want more.”
