Stephen Mulhern gives health update as he returns to Saturday Night Takeaway

Stephen Mulhern returned to Saturday Night Takeaway tonight after a few weeks of being absent.

The presenter joined Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly in the weekend entertainment show for their famous Ant vs Dec segment. He gave a health update after he had been suffering from a mystery illness.

He claimed he was forced to miss the show and rest up as ordered by the doctor but is now feeling much better. He thanked fans for all the lovely and supportive messages they had sent him as he battled the illness.

Appearing on the show today, Stephen joked as he said: "Yes, they needed me back. The ratings were down." Ant and Dec asked Stephen how he was and where he had been. Dec asked: "We haven't seen you since show one, where the hell have you been?"

Stephen joked he had been stuck in Hollywood after his private jet managed to break down. He turned more serious as he added: "No seriously, I haven't been too well, so thank you for all of your lovely messages. Do you know something? Forget about that all now because the show must go on!"

Fans were delighted to see him back on their screens. They took to Twitter to share their joy.

Valerie said: "#SaturdayNightTakeaway. Great to see Stephen Mulhern. Glad you're better." While Tyrese added: "It's very nice to see that Stephen Mulhern is well again #SaturdayNightTakeaway"

Rachael shared how fond of him she was. She said: "Have really missed Stephen Mulhern on #SaturdayNightTakeaway. He is the cherry on the show."

Katie said: "So good to see Stephen back. Glad he’s better @StephenMulhern #SaturdayNightTakeaway"
