AMERICAN author Stephen King has been praised by a Highland football team for helping secure its future after the “King of Horror” donated to the club after learning it faced financial crisis.

King has been dubbed Buckie Thistle’s “biggest American Jags fan” after he was “quick to offer help” when the author discovered the club’s future faced financial uncertainty.

The club has found itself in a difficult financial predicament following the resignation of its long-standing president and benefactor Garry Farquhar in August.

However, the club has praised King, who has once again lent his support to the side.

The 72-year-old’s love affair with the Moray side stems from when he referenced the team in his 2020 novel If It Bleeds.

King previously revealed he chose to reference Buckie Thistle because of its “gorgeous name”.

On Thursday, the club revealed that King has once again lent his support to the side after he previously donated two copies of If It Bleeds, with one copy sold through a fundraising auction.

In a statement, the club wrote: “Buckie Thistle Football Club are very thankful to our biggest American Jags fan Stephen King for his support.

“American author Stephen, dubbed the ‘King of Horror’, was quick to offer help when he learned of the financial difficulties the club are currently facing.

“This is the second time Stephen has kindly donated to our club, firstly sending us 2 of his signed novels ‘If It Bleeds’, one of which was auctioned and the other will remain at the club.

“Many thanks Stephen.”

Along with the statement, the club posted a picture of King proudly wearing the club’s shirt and scarf.

The post on Buckie Thistle’s social media of King donning the green and white of the club’s colours has been widely praised by supporters who have been quick to thank the author for his backing.

One person wrote: “Superb, thank you Stephen IT is greatly appreciated and hopefully it will help CARRIE us forward.”

Another said: “Very kind of him , thank you Mr King ...ONCE A JAG ALWAYS A JAG !!”

A third said: “Thanks also to everyone behind the scenes doing so much to keep our club going.”

A fourth added: “Thank you sir extremely generous. We are a great club- mon i Jags”
