Stephen Kenny on 'really brilliant' Ireland demand against Scotland as boss makes famous Hampden claim

Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny insists his side must put in a "really brilliant performance" if they stand a chance against Scotland.

Steve Clarke's side welcome Ireland to Hampden in the second game of their Nations League triple header, with the Scots going into the game top of the table after victory over Ukraine. And the Tartan Army will surely be full of confidence as they look to keep their winning momentum going after success against Armenia before the 3-0 result on Wednesday.

Three points on Saturday will stand Scotland in good stead when it comes to Euro 2024 qualification, so it is all to play for. But the ROI knows that his upcoming opponents have made Hampden a difficult place to visit as the famous looks forward to the clash on the 'famous' stage in Glasgow.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's clash, the Kenny said: "It's a great game, Ireland against Scotland in the Nations League at Hampden Park. It's a famous venue and we're delighted to be going there.

"With Scotland qualifying for the European Championships previously and a lot of players playing in the high end of the Premier League, they're a very strong team.

"And we're looking forward to playing against them.

"We've got to go to Hampden very determine because Scotland's home record is excellent. We're going to have to put in a really brilliant performance to get a result there.

"And that's what we're trying to do."

Scotland are top of League B Group 1, with nine points after securing all three against Ukraine on Wednesday. Oleksandr Petrakov's side sit second with seven points on the board, with ROI in third with four.

And with two games a piece left to play, the league result could go any way.
