Steph McGovern has been in the spotlight for quite some time now but still chooses to keep some aspects of her life private.
The 40-year-old, who was raised in North Yorkshire, found fame as a presenter on BBC Breakfast and as part of the Watchdog team, however, she is best known for being the host of Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch.
The award-winning journalist and TV personality has been tight-lipped about her long-term partner and daughter and has spoken out over the years as to why this is.

In July 2019, Steph announced she was expecting her first child on Twitter - but it was only through this tweet the outside world discovered she was a gay woman.
The mum-of-one told Huff Post: “I was never asked if I’m honest. I think because I didn’t necessarily look like a gay woman I don’t think people ever bothered to ask me. And so my kind of coming out was being pregnant because obviously everyone then asked questions. Also, I grew up in the era where, although there weren’t that many gay women on telly, I felt like there were loads around me in my social setting, so I didn’t feel like I needed to do a big thing of ‘hello I am gay’.”
Despite this, much of her family life, including her long-term partner, remains a mystery. One reason for this is Steph has said she tries her best to lead a normal life.
What we do know of Steph’s partner is little - but it is thought she is a TV executive at the BBC. When the couple’s daughter was born in November 2020, Steph shared the news with her fans via Instagram.
She penned: “Well hello world, just surfaced to let you know that we now have a daughter. Born on Monday morning just as @BBCBreakfast was wrapping up. We’re all fine and dandy. Just getting used to the Eau de sick/poo I am now regularly wearing. #babylife.”
While sharing the happy news online, Steph also reiterated her boundaries with social media and why she doesn’t share any pictures or the names of her daughter and partner.
She said: “My rule is, I never put my family on there – and when I say family, I mean my partner and my daughter, I haven’t even shared my little girl’s name or any pictures of her, because I want it to be her choice when she’s older, whether she wants to put herself out there or not.
"And the same with my partner, she’s not in the public eye and we just keep that separate and that’s really healthy for us because no one’s then making an opinion about our family life. If they have an opinion, it’s about me – and that’s fine because I’ve chosen to put myself out there.”
The TV star explained - in an interview with HELLO! Magazine - her personal life was also the reason why she wouldn’t appear on ITV’s Strictly Come Dancing - at least for now.
She added: “I think it's a brilliant show…but it's just not the right time at the moment. I've got my show five days a week so I'd have to try and train every evening, and it wouldn't be fair on my little girl. She's so young, and I don't want to miss anything. My family would probably want to be there (to support me), but that would expose them to newspaper coverage and everything else.”
