Steph Curry speaks on Cory Joseph being traded

Toward the end of the Feb. 8 trade deadline, the Golden State Warriors shipped veteran guard Cory Joseph to the Indiana Pacers in a move to free up an additional roster spot. Having joined as a free agent in the summer, Joseph had played in 26 games for the Warriors, providing reliable backup off the bench.

When speaking to the media following the Warriors’ 131-109 win over the Pacers on Thursday, Steph Curry admitted he was going to miss having Joseph in the locker room. Curry’s comments came after he produced a memorable 42-point performance in his team’s latest win.

“It sucks losing Cory. If anybody knows Cory Joseph and his personality and his presence, he’s an ultimate professional,” Curry said. “He brings a great spirit to the locker room, helping the young guys. That type of guy is a connector. We’re going to miss him for sure. That one was a tough one. I understand the business of the game and the money and all that. We’re going to miss him for sure.”

Joseph entered the NBA as the 29th pick in the 2011 NBA draft. He is in his 13th season in the league and has played for six teams. The Pacers have since waived Joseph, so it will be interesting to see what team he ends up on next and whether that will be in the buyout market or during the offseason.

Nevertheless, the trade has provided the Warriors with an additional roster spot, which will give them options in the buyout market or when looking to convert one of their two-way players onto a full-time deal.
