Steph Curry led the Golden State Warriors to the NBA title - and he ensured the celebrations were befitting of a champion by partying in the club with tequila in one hand and his Finals MVP award in the other.
Curry and the Warriors enjoyed their fourth championship parade in eight years on Monday after he inspired the franchise to a 4-2 series win over the Boston Celtics. While celebrating with the Bay Area fanbase, the 34-year-old - who will surely go down as one of the all-time greats - admitted he felt ‘amazing’.
Warriors teammates and friends hit the clubs, with Curry clearly loving life as he danced to the music and kissed a bottle of Don Julio 1942. In a video circulated on social media, Curry was seen busting out moves on the dance floor before picking up his Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP trophy.
He then put both the hardware and the bottle of tequila to his lips. According to website FourSquare, the tequila costs $950 - approximately £770 - although Curry is clearly sparing no expense for his championship celebrations.
Speaking at the parade prior to his acquisition of the bottle, Curry said: “It never gets old. The fact that we get to celebrate the accomplishment like winning another championship after what we've been through over the last three years and doing it with this group and be able to celebrate with this fanbase…”
After arriving back in San Francisco with the Larry O'Brien trophy, the Warriors warned the rest of the NBA that they are not going anywhere anytime soon. Curry, wearing a yellow hoodie and a 'championship' snapback, carried his MVP trophy off the team jet as the whole squad received a warm welcome.
With a cigar between his lips, the point guard put his arms out wide, as masses of fans gathered to greet head coach Steve Kerr and the triumphant players. Speaking to reporters, Curry added: “It's nice to bring old Larry back where he belongs.
Do you think Curry and the Warriors can repeat their heroics in 2023? Let us know in the comments section.
“Like Draymond (Green) said, it's the Warriors reputation and so we back! This is pretty special for sure. To get the job done, it's an emotional rollercoaster.
“A lot of work goes into it, the whole team is excited but everyone is exhausted so we need to rest before the parade on Monday.”
After a disappointing - and rare - poor performance in Game 5, Curry led the Warriors with 34 points to secure the title over the Celtics. After titles in 2015, 2017 and 2018 saw Andre Iguodala and Kevin Durant (twice) win Finals MVP, Curry ensured he was not missing out on the accolade this time around.
He was brilliant throughout the series, averaging 31.2 points per game while his iconic moment came in Game 4 - a mesmerising 43-point display to level the series at 2-2. The Denver Nuggets, Memphis Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks and the Celtics were all defeated by the Warriors and Curry en route to their seventh championship in franchise history.
