Stefanski: Jerome Ford will be Browns’ top running back despite Kareem Hunt signing

You cannot replace Nick Chubb but the Browns have to drive on and figure out who will carry the load. The team brought back former rushing champion Kareem Hunt to help fill the void left by Chubb. However, head coach Kevin Stefanski is standing by second-year player Jerome Ford as the starter.

“Jerome is the lead back, but we have to work through all of those types of things. And what Kareem’s ready to do this week you know, if he’s ready to go this week and what type of load he can carry and Pierre Strong. So I think we need to work through all of that. But, yes, Jerome is the starter.”

Having Kareem Hunt as a veteran leader on passing downs will help Ford by giving a competent backup. Against Pittsburgh Ford showed that his speed and acceleration can get the job done when he’s in the open field. Most of the burden will fall on Deshaun Watson to lead the offense but the combo of Ford and Hunt should be a competent pair in the running game.
