When the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted wide receiver Calvin Austin III in 2022, it was to bring his rare speed to the Steelers offense. Unfortunately, an injury cost him his entire rookie campaign. But Austin is back and he’s healthy.
Oh, and he’s fast. Really fast. Check out the video below of a healthy Austin showing off that elite speed and quickness during OTAs.
Austin averaged 16.3 yards per catch at Memphis on 156 career receptions. Austin was the most potent weapon on the Tigers offense and despite constant double teams was able to press defenses with all that speed.
The Steelers offense is set with George Pickens and Diontae Johnson out the outside but some combination of Allen Robinson and Austin at the team’s third and fourth receivers is going to get opposing defenses fits. Austin should also be an excellent option on the gadget plays offensive coordinator Matt Canada likes to employ as well.
