When the Pittsburgh Steelers square off against the Houston Texans on Sunday, they will see two former teammates on the other side in the Houston starting lineup. Cornerback Steven Nelson and guard Kendrick Green are both former starters for the Steelers.
Nelson spent two seasons with the Steelers and during those years, started 30 games. A case could be made in his final season with Pittsburgh, 2020, he was the best cornerback on the team. He had three interceptions during his tenure in Pittsburgh and 10 career interceptions.
Buy Steelers TicketsFor Green, his career in Pittsburgh was a case of the wrong team and the wrong position. Green was drafted as a former college guard and thrust straight into the starting lineup as a center. This was a failed experiment that led to Green being inactive for all of the 2022 season. Green has since moved on and seems to be finding a home with the Texans back at his natural position of guard.
The Steelers understand the “insider information” Green can provide to the Texans offensive line. Pittsburgh defensive tackle Montravius Adams talked about it.
“The toughest thing is that he knows everyone on the D-Line,” Adams said. “That’s what he will share with the other offensive linemen. TJ, Alex, Larry, all their strengths. I think he will share with his O-Line to help them be in place.”
