Steelers vs. Bengals OT classic in Week 1 put up huge viewership numbers

The rivalry matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers is a big-ticket item, even without things going to overtime in unforgettable fashion.

That’s just what the Week 1 showdown did though and the result was huge ratings numbers.

According to The Athletic’s Bill Shea, the game dominated CBS’ Week 1 early window by averaging 17.38 million viewers: “That’s the network’s most-watched Week 1 regional window since the NFL returned to CBS in 1998, the broadcaster said. Week 1 was up 21 percent over the same window a year ago.”

Given the upset that happened there, things are now only more interesting for the upcoming rematch.

As a fitting example of the drawing power of these two rivals when they get together, that rematch goes down in Week 11 on Sunday Night Football.
