Barring an epic collapse, it’s only a matter of time before the Pittsburgh Steelers earn their spot in the postseason for the second consecutive season — but it can’t happen in Week 14.
The 6-7 Indianapolis Colts, who own the tiebreaker due to defeating Pittsburgh in Week 4, are on a bye this week.
If the Steelers beat the Cleveland Browns this week, they’ll have a clinch opportunity should they win at the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15. History isn’t on Pittsburgh’s side there (they haven’t won in Philly since 1965), but anything can happen. The bottom line is: The Steelers only need two more wins to make the playoffs.
The Steelers currently stand at the No. 3 seed heading into this week. Since 2012, they’ve entered the postseason as the third seed three times (is that an omen?).
Since Mike Tomlin took over as head coach in 2007, the Steelers made the playoffs 11 times and are 1-1 on trips to the Super Bowl. They’ve not won a playoff game since losing to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl 45 in 2010.
